Australian Floods/Cyclone
2011
Only last year we were reporting the previous earthquake devastation on New Zealand’s South Island. Here we are less than a year later, and there are terrible floods and cyclone damage in Australia, and another earthquake hits New Zealand’s south island. Australia and New Zealand are home to many J-type owners and enthusiasts. We will post any news on the situation of members, enthusiasts and vans as and when it comes in.
Peter Bateman has sent this link to an Australian newspaper’s website,http://www.abc.net.au/news/photos/2011/01/11/3110183.htm which graphically illustrates the problems caused by the flooding.
Following the worst floods in the state’s history, Cyclone Yazi, due to hit land around Cairns, is being described as “the most catastrophic storm to ever hit our coast” by Queensland State Premier Anna Bligh. With wind speeds of almost 300km/h (185 mph) it is expected to bring with it more flooding in cities and towns still recovering from the intense rains of a few weeks ago. Our thoughts are with you all in these terrible times.
