Motorclassica, the Bendigo Bash and The NEC!

The Aussies have had a great time organising the Motorclassica and Bendigo 70th Anniversary events.

Six vans were on show at Motorclassica in Melbourne, whilst an impressive thirteen turned out for the Bendigo event. A fourteenth van turned up for the Sunday afternoon at the Morris Minor Garage.

Meanwhile, back in the UK, the Classic Motor Show is on at the NEC, Birmingham. We have four vans on display. More photos to follow.

Gaydon and other matters

First, some sad news from Peter Bateman in Australia:

“Sadly we have to report the passing of Lloyd Harrington. Over the years Lloyd owned about 70 J vans, many ex-Melbourne Gas & Fuel and a fleet of 55 Js delivered bread from the bakery at 499 Canterbury Road, Vermont.
We pass our thoughts to his family. One day a Harrington’s Bread van will be restored in his memory.”

Gaydon came and went yesterday, 6th August. We managed 5 J-types at it, although one of the vans was on display in the Post Office vehicle line-up!

Many nice light commercials and lots of good conversations. It is turning into a great show.

Another first…

We think that this is the only example of a J-type immortalised in a tattoo, send a photo if you know otherwise!

Thanks to Peter Bateman for the photo!

CARnivale 2017, Sydney Australia

Australia Day 2017 and the annual CARnivale at Parramatta Park in Sydney’s west was the hub to showcase some of Australia’s interesting motor vehicles. Five of Sydney’s J van fleet were on display and as usual provided many smiles and a popular ‘selfie’ backdrop. Stories were told of J vans delivering milk in Canberra back in the fifties. We met an ex-Lucas employee who recalled as an apprentice, “bouncing around” in the back of a Lucas J van in the UK.  He now lives in Oz and travels in greater comfort.

News in from Australia!

Entrant 084, the Winning Appliances J van won Outstanding Car at Australia’s greatest car event – SummerNats30 in Canberra. Congratulations!  Andrew Slender now has another trophy for this van. The next display is in Sydney on Australia Day, January 26 at CARnivale, Parramatta Park.
