Ice Cream Vans
The ‘J’ type was a delight for the Ice Cream trade. Its size, separate chassis and forward control layout made it ideal for use as an Ice Cream van. Occasionally the standard van was utilised, but more often a chassis or ‘chassis plus cab front’ was entrusted to one of the many coachbuilders specialising in this field.
This gallery shows many varied body styles that can be seen on the genuine Ice Cream vans that survive.
Granelli’s Ices of Macclesfield have a ‘J’ type which they have owned from new.
Archive photographs of J-type ice cream vans that have long since gone can be seen under the Archive Photographs button in the right-hand box.
