New J-type Digest out!

Hey everyone,

We’ve recently put out the latest edition of our digital magazine – the J-type Digest 🎉

A graphic of three issues of the J-type Digest magazine. Each features an image of a classic Morris J-type Vehicle on the cover.

It’s turned into *almost* a Canada special edition, but there’s content that anyone, anywhere in the world will enjoy!

Would you like to receive our Digest via email? Just leave your address in this form and enjoy J news 2-3 times a year 🙂

Spooktober Greetings

Hey J-typers, a few updates for you:

Currently, we don’t have a space at this year’s November Classic Motor Show at the NEC, Birmingham. It’s the first time in around 30 years that we’ve not displayed there!

We do still have a code for discounted tickets though, if anyone wants to make use of it – CCCNOV5936

For the first time ever we have applied for a spot at the Practical Classics Classic Car & Restoration Show (20 – 22 March 2026.)

There’s no guarantees (especially as there are lot more costs involved in trailering on-going restoration projects vs simply being able to drive there!) but we’re intrigued at the prospect at least. More details to follow, but it looks like it could be an interesting one for us hopefully. Let us know if you have any thoughts on this or would be interested in bringing a van!

We’re working on the next digital Digest and look forward to sharing more with you all soon 🙂

NEC Classic Motor Show 2024

We’re pleased to have been allocated stand space at this year’s Classic Motor Show at the NEC.

A firm favourite of our yearly events, this event showcases a myriad of motors. Taking over several halls of the NEC the show is one of the most varied displays in the country.

Join us there: use the discount code on our Member’s Page for money off your ticket!

Seasons Greetings…

Seasons Greetings and very best wishes for 2024.

Classic Motor Show at the NEC UK

It’s nearly time for the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show at the NEC Birmingham, Fri 10 – Sun 12 Nov.  Here’s a sneak preview of the Show Guide to get you in the mood!  https://joom.ag/Wugd

Members save £4 on adult day tickets and £2 on other ticket types if booked by midnight on Thurs 9th at www.necclassicmotorshow.com quoting the club code found in the members area of the club website, contact us to be sent access details if mislaid.

The Classic Motor Show draws near…

As we have already mentioned, we have a stand at this year’s show. It is in Hall 3, number 3-465. We look forward to seeing as many members as possible there. Members intending to visit can purchase tickets at necclassicmotorshow.com, at a discount by quoting the code which is published in the password-protected member’s area of the site. If enough members do make use of the offer the Register will benefit also, from additional passes to increase the stand support team.

The show’s theme this year is ‘Perfect Partners’ – how handy that Morris-Commercial made a decision in 1956 that would facilitate us being able to tune our display to suit,  by badge-engineering the Austin version!

All over for another half decade!

The 75th Anniversary of the J-type Rally, Wythall, UK

17th and 18th of June 2023. Wythall Transport museum.

How many vans turned up? 18 J-types and J/Bs, 2 Austin 101s and a ‘rogue’ J4!

So we managed an aggregate of 20 club vehicles over the two days, which was really pleasing. No records broken (not entirely unexpected) but a very nice selection of vans. Good to see a couple of unfinished vans too, which certainly gave members of the public an insight into what sort of work is required.

Our thanks to everyone who managed to get to the event, either as an entrant or spectator. It was a blast, eh!

All in all, a great weekend – until Sunday late afternoon when the promised storm broke, the heavens opening up with a downpour of near biblical proportions!

Which means that we’ve now all got to stay around and do it again in 5 years, when the J will celebrate the 80th Anniversary in 2028.

However, we have had the good news of a stand offer at this November’s Classic Motor Show at the NEC – which we have accepted of course. The theme of this year’s event is ‘Perfect Partners’, which seems to be a doddle for us with the Austin / Morris versions. Hope to see as many of you as possible at the NEC, look out for the discount members ticket offer which we shall publish soon…

Austin 101 and three J vans line up on Sunday morning.

A Sunday shot of part of the line-up.

a pair of GPO Planning vans turn up on Sunday morning, occasioning a light-hearted race to see who could unload fastest.

A beautifully restored J body.

A part-restoration, useful for showing how these vans go together.

A Meccano model of a J made many years ago.

Live steam, J vans and working buses, what’s not to love.

Thos who come to look are all ages.

J-types and live steam miniature locos, a great combination.

Friday Afternoon and the gathering has begun.

Great shot taken from the upper deck of an open topped double-decker.

The Gathering begins…

Yes, the Anniversary Rally is finally here, and vans are starting to converge on Wythall from all directions.

Ken Bennett, RIP

It is with great sadness that we report that Ken Bennett, a long-time member of this Register and of the Morris-Commercial Club, has passed away following a recent operation. We will write more fully when information comes in. He will be missed by all who knew him.
